This was my first Dead show at age 17. I knew nothing about the band and loved every minute of this show. Whether I've seen better (or heard better) later, and there were many, this one will always stand out as an all time favorite. BTW, it wasn't a broken string, someone came out on stage and cut Phil's strings. It was insane, which is probably why I remember it.

I had American Beauty and Skeletons from the closet, given to me by a country music fan because "they're not country enough". Nobody in my age group from my little suburb were listening. I didn't even know Keith and Donna existed when I went to the Uptown that night. By the time the faded out of Half-Step and started Franklin's Tower, I was hooked. Great show. Great venue. Great band.

Wow, all these comments/reviews and not one mention of the aforementioned segment of incomparable music; my current answer to the question, "Hey Joe B., what's your favorite Grateful Dead song?"

I did some searching and it appears that the only Warren Zevon tune Garcia played on was Transverse City. Ill keep looking.

It's fitting that they played Werewolves of London considering Jerry did the guitar work for Warren Zevon on that song. Check out Zevon's cd Transverse City, its got Garcia, David Gilmour, and Neil Young all doing guitar work on it

5-11-78 has a better version of Werewolves, I downloaded that show and it is awesome! I also wish that they would of played this song more. Nowadays you have to go to a Bob Weir and Ratdog show on Halloween to hear this song.hahaha oh well..... have a grate day!

A very decent show, well worth a listen. A beautiful Mississippi. Samson & Delilah is hot. Terrapin is tight, and the Not Fade Away reminds one of the "groovy," bouncy NFA a la 1976.
Of particular interest is the encore, Werewolves of London, a song by Warren Zevon that was a hit on FM radio in 1978. I've never seen Werewolves in a Dead any other setlist, and a search of Deadbase doesn't yields anything. A pretty good song, and Jerry does a nice job. Too bad it didn't get into the regular rotation.

This was a great show. The tape in Jed warbled a bit and resumes later on fine. I had the tape from this show and appreciate it being online. I will look to see if I have the tape and can give it to someone to patch this hole.
